Plans unveiled for new ‘business’ hotel on the Gold Coast

Accor Group has unveiled plans to build a hotel on the old Gold Coast Hospital site in Southport.

The announcement comes more than two years after a preliminary concept was approved by council as part of the $500 million Queen Street Village development.

Accor said the 230-room 17-storey hotel will be operated under the Mercure brand and “aimed directly at the business traveller”.

“Rooms either overlook the Central Plaza or Nerang Street. At roof level there is a pool, a sun terrace and a covered food and beverage outlet. Mercure expect this will be a very popular function space,” Accor said in a report to council.

Along with a five-storey height extension, the new application to council has also requested the opening hours of the rooftop bar be extended to allow operation from 7am to 1am.
