Gold Coast resort swaps plastic for glass

Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast has swapped plastic bottles for glass or aluminium throughout its guestrooms, restaurants and meeting spaces in an effort to reduce its footprint on the environment.

The initiative has been under testing at the resort since September 2019 and is set to eliminate 179,000 plastic bottles from landfill each year.

The resort has also installed Zip HydroTaps, a tap system that delivers pure tasting chilled water, throughout public spaces.

“We are leading the way in going plastic free,” said Mark Sexton, general manager, Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast.

“With sustainability taking centre stage, we are thrilled to be on track to save 270 kilograms of plastic waste by August 2020, and a staggering 1.5 tons of waste by 2025.

“Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast has been the test ground for this initiative. Due to its success, the initiative is set to expand to other Marriott International hotels in Australia over the coming year.”
