Great Barrier Reef eco resort put up for sale

A resort near the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland has been put on the market for the first time in 16 years.

Located at Bargara near Bundaberg, the 3.5-star Kellys Beach Resort offers 41 self-contained and stand-alone eco villas set on 5.5 acres of gardens.

Other facilities include a 60-pax conference venue, a café and bar, and long running onsite restaurant Kellys Bar and Restaurant, which is supplied by more than 13 local growers and producers.

Selling agent Glenn Millar of ResortBrokers said a local family had overseen its operations “with a great deal of passion”.

“We’re expecting to receive a high level of interest from experienced tourism operators who are looking to tap into a real surge in demand for unique regional tourism accommodation assets like Kellys Beach,” he said.

The sale price includes the management rights and associated freehold of the resort.

Bundaberg Tourism CEO Katherine Reid said the owners had built a successful accommodation business.

“As the only certified eco-resort on the mainland of the southern Great Barrier Reef region, they’ve helped educate visitors on sustainability and given them the opportunity to connect with nature on holidays," she said.

“An additional factor of Kellys, that really sets it apart, is that with the restaurant onsite, they’re the only resort style property that can offer dinner, bed and breakfast packages in the region, which is really attractive to the group market.
