WA country pub drops its asking price

A 21-room heritage-listed hotel in Wagin has lowered its asking price by $45,000.

The 123-year-old Mitchell Hall Hotel, formerly the Federal Hotel, has reduced its price to $445,000 after being initially listed for $490,000.

The hotel includes a restaurant, cafe, living quarters and block of land on Wagin’s main street.

Owner Phil Meredith said he lowered the price after interested buyers were denied finance from various banks.

“I don’t know where else you’d buy something that’s fully equipped and ready to go,” Meredith told WAtoday.

“The banks tightened up that much it was just too hard for people to get in with deposits.”

Wagin Shire president Phil Bright there has been a rise in demand for workers to service the local farming industry.

“In the Shire of Wagin we have an economic development strategy around creating, fostering and enhancing the business in town and if we continue to attract business there’s a need for employment then that’s all about the need for accommodation,” he told WAtoday.
