New hotel and rooftop restaurant proposed for Kangaroo Point tower in Brisbane

A new hotel and rooftop restaurant have been added to plans for an 11-storey tower at Kangaroo Point Cliffs in inner Brisbane.

The project was to have 100 apartments according to plans drawn up in 2018.

But a new development application for Banyan Tree would see that number rise again to 128 units, with 20 one-bedroom apartments and 60 short-term accommodation units added instead two and three-bedroom units and penthouse apartments.

Gabba councillor Jonathan Sri has criticised the proposal, saying hotel rooms were “directly contrary” to the needs of residents.

“It will create more conflict within the building down the track, because long-term residents won’t like living next to hotel rooms,” he told The Courier Mail.

The plan is now out for public consultation.
