Nightclub patron dies after security altercation in Brisbane

A police investigation is underway following the death of a man who was allegedly restrained by security personnel at a popular nightlife venue in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley district.

The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning at a venue at the intersection of Ann and Morgan Streets.

According to police reports, security staff attempted to remove the patron from the premises after he allegedly refused directions to leave at approximately 12:20 a.m.

During the subsequent altercation, security guards physically restrained the man as he reportedly resisted removal.

"The man became unresponsive shortly after being restrained," a police spokesperson said. Despite immediate efforts by emergency responders to revive him through CPR, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have established a crime scene at the venue as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the man's death. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

This incident raises renewed questions about security protocols and the use of physical restraint techniques in Brisbane's nightlife district, which has previously faced scrutiny over similar incidents.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have observed the confrontation. Anyone with information or footage that could assist the investigation is urged to come forward.
