Hotels in NSW to offer rooms to victims of domestic violence

Hotels in New South Wales are being offered the opportunity to help those fleeing domestic violence in the state during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Homelessness NSW, Y Foundations and Domestic Violence NSW have launched a centralised online forum where hotels can register their rooms for women and children needing temporary accommodation.

The move comes as social support services warn of a spike in domestic violence as the social lockdown continues.

"More resources and therapeutic supports have moved online, whilst refuges are safe, have vacancies and are providing intensive levels of wrap-around support," Domestic Violence NSW spokeswoman Renata Field said in a statement.

In March, the NSW government provided an additional $14 million to support temporary accommodation during the pandemic.
