NT tourism recovery taskforce enlists Accor chief

Simon McGrath, Accor’s chief in the Pacific, has joined a taskforce established to kick start the Northern Territory’s tourism sector following the Covid-19 pandemic.

McGrath is one of nine industry leaders appointed to the NT Government’s Tourism Restart Taskforce, which will provide “a national and international perspective on forging a pathway to recovery, bringing together leaders from across the tourism sector with expertise in accommodation and hospitality, drive tourism, aviation and touring”.

The other task force members are AAT Kings Group CEO Matthew Cameron-Smith; Tourism & Transport Forum CEO Margy Osmond; Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia CEO Grant Hunt; Darwin Convention Centre GM Peter Savoff; and Discovery Parks Group COO Michaela Webster, with the committee to be chaired by Tourism NT Chairman of Commissioners, Michael Bridge.

Australian Tourism Export Council director Denis Pierce, who is also on a national tourism rescue task force launched last week by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will also provide extra consultation.

The committee is currently in place until the end of May 2020 and will form its guidance based on government advice and steps taken in loosening social restrictions as and when they occur.
