Sydney Fish Markets redevelopment plan fast-tracked
The NSW government has fast-tracked the $749 million redevelopment of Sydney Fish Markets to boost the state economy which has been smashed by Covid-19.
Infrastructure NSW are in the final stages of preparing to move Sydney Fish Markets to make way for a series of skyscrapers along Blackwattle Bay.
Plans for the new Sydney Fish Markets include a three-storey building with fishing-fleet servicing wharf and facilities, a multi-purpose wharf with the capacity for a privately-operated ferry stop, retail, markets, business and office premises and multifunctional event spaces.
“The new Sydney Fish Market will serve many purposes–a working fish market, an amenity for the city, a cultural and tourist destination and urban connector and an inspiring icon along the Sydney Waterfront,” the application stated.
“It will act as a catalyst for the rejuvenation of Blackwattle Bay, which is under-utilised and largely inaccessible to the public.”
The NSW government also proposed three similar precincts for the 8.4-hectare site next to the new Sydney Fish Market which could include a new hotel, commercial office buildings and residential towers.
