Crown Casino in Burswood to reopen as WA moves to Phase Four of easing COVID-19 restrictions

Crown Casino in Burwood is set to reopen as Western Australia moves to further ease restrictions.

The state has moved into Phase Four restrictions resulting in more freedom for venues to reopen.

The casino will be required to leave every second electronic machine switched off to ensure social distancing with a 2sqm distancing rule still in place.

“Crown has worked closely with government and health authorities to ensure that our reopening can be done in a safe manner for the community, and in compliance with all government mandates including physical distancing requirements and hygiene measures,” a Crown spokesperson said.

“The past few months have been challenging for many Western Australians, and we look forward to welcoming thousands of our employees back to work in coming weeks.”

Phase Four allows venues to host stand up patrons, meaning bars and nightclubs can also resume activities.

Concert venues can also recommence activity with the current maximum gathering limits removed.

“Venue capacities are gone, the requirement to be seated at all times is gone and the removal of the patron register means a lot less red tape,” Australian Hotels Association (WA) chief executive Bradley Woods said.

“Allowing unseated performances also means venues can go back to hosting comedy nights and live bands and dance floors – it is all possible.

“The vast majority of venues will and should be open and we’ll see a very large return to employment for a lot of people as well,” he said.

“What we need now is for West Australians to get out and about, now is the time to be returning to your favourite locations en masse.”
