Rent free lease for historic St Kilda restaurant site

The landlord of a restaurant space in Melbourne’s St Kilda is offering free rent for a restaurateur brave enough to start a new hospitality business during the Covid-19 crisis.

The rent-free lease is being offered for the site of the Tolarno restaurant and bar at the Fitzroy St precinct.

Tolarno has a long history since it launched in 1970, including a 15-year tenure by celebrity chefs Iain Hewitson and Ruth Allen and later Guy Grossi.

Other tenants include the owners of pasta bar chain Sauced Ben Thompson and Sylvan Spateral, who got into trouble for painting over a heritage mural, and most recently the Immersive Group.

The site boasts “quality fixtures and fittings”, fully fitted commercial kitchen and bar set-up and an existing liquor licence and footpath seating permit, according to leasing agents Tsimos Commercial.
