True Foods cites $850K investment benefits

A Maryborough food processor expects an $850,000 investment will help to steady its production levels throughout the year and provide more stable employment.

True Foods shifted its flat-bread production from Melbourne to Maryborough about a year ago and employs about 140 people there.

It has now announced an upgrade to its central Victorian plant so it can produce pikelets and crumpets.

The sales and marketing director, Mark Thurlow, says flat-bread sales slump during autumn and winter.

"One of the best parts about it is that it does stabilise our labour requirements throughout the year," he said.

"Our main products are very seasonal and peak over the warmer months, so this enables us to transfer staff from our wrap production in the summer across to crumpets and pikelets in the winter."
