Circular Quay & The Rocks businesses must register to accept customers on NYE

New Year’s Eve celebrations in Sydney will be different this year. A designated Green Zone will be established around Circular Quay and The Rocks to keep everyone COVID Safe.

Your customers and staff will need a New Year’s Eve Pass to enter the Green Zone. This will help control crowd numbers around Sydney Harbour.

Who requires a New Year's Eve Pass?

Only certain people will be allowed to enter the Green Zone and they will require a New Year’s Eve Pass to do so. This includes:

  • customers with confirmed bookings at venues such as restaurants, hotels, bars and ticketed events
  • staff of these venues and events
  • residents who live inside the zone, and their guests.

Registering your business to accept customers

Businesses in the Green Zone need to register to accept customers.

The online application process is quick and easy. You’ll need to supply details like:

  • ABN
  • business address
  • the number of customers or patrons attending your venue in total (not including staff).

You’ll be able to register online at ServiceNSW from Monday 7 December up until 30 December 2020.

Sharing your registration code with customers

Once your business is approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your unique registration code.

You need to forward the registration code to your customers with a New Year’s Eve booking at your venue. They will use your code to apply for a New Year’s Eve Pass.

All customers, over 16 years will need a pass to enter the Green Zone, from 5pm onwards. Children under 16 years will need to be registered on an adult pass.

Sharing your registration code with staff

Your staff also need a New Year’s Eve Pass. After you’ve registered your business to accept customers, you will need to register your business to specifically allow your staff to get a New Year's Eve Pass.

The registration process is the same, but you will be sent a different code to share with your staff. Then your staff will need to register online for their own New Year’s Eve Pass.
