Gold Coast to be home to first six star eco resort in QLD

The Gold Coast could become home to the first six-star nature-based eco-tourism resort in the state of Queensland, with a development application about to be lodged with the Gold Coast City Council.

The Bulletin has revealed a development application (DA) will be be lodged with the Gold Coast City Council for Pandana South Stradbroke Island on the former McLaren’s Landing site.

The initial investment for the project will be $12 million. The application requests to create 40 “eco-friendly luxurious glamping tents”, each with individual bathroom facilities along 230 metres of beachfront.

The Bulletin reports, there’s also plans for a food and beverage offerings for recreational boat visitors, along with  nature-based conferencing, events and weddings, marine eco-tourism and cultural tourism led by traditional landowners.

The project will be undertaken by Pandana Capital Pty Ltd.

“We believe the Pandana vision is an opportunity to realise the potential of this pocket of the island and create a sustainable operation that is in sync with its natural beauty and appeal,” Pandana Capital director Hamish Jordan said.

“Our goal is to deliver an offering that traditional landowners, locals and visitors can take pride in.

“A new plan, appropriate oversight, stakeholder consultation and buy-in led by a group with the capabilities and credentials to execute its vision offers far greater scope for improvement,” he said.

If all is approved, the build will take three to four months with plans to open the resort in 2022.
