Food blogger speaks out after ex-partner admits to abuse
A prominent food blogger has broken her silence after her former celebrity chef boyfriend, pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges.
Brenda Loveday, creator of the popular food blog and social media platform Freaky Feeds, shared a message with her Instagram followers on Saturday expressing gratitude for support received since her ex-partner's admission of guilt.
"To the many women who've shared their own stories with me: I see you, I believe you, and I will continue to use my platform to speak up and advocated for all of us," she wrote on Saturday.
Loveday thanked those closest to her: "Thank you for offering me a safe place when I needed to escape, for holding me when I was falling apart behind the composed exterior I tried so hard to maintain, and for listening to the same story, over and over, without judgement."
This will be Loveday’s final public statement on the matter until she delivers her Victim Impact Statement in June.
Loveday shared that she had remained silent for nine months while dealing with the public revelation of her trauma.
"Yesterday confirmed what I've known all along: I am a victim of domestic violence," she wrote. "With that truth finally acknowledged, I can begin to close this chapter, start rebuilding my life, and most importantly, speak up about this issue."
Loveday mentioned that certain legal decisions were made to protect her from what she described as a "broken system." She added, "In June, I'll finally have a voice in the Adelaide Magistrates Court. I'll be able to speak my truth – not just for closure, but because I deserve to be heard. And I will do so for every woman who has been silenced by fear, shame, or the threat of not being believed."
Leonardo Moreira Loureiro, with whom Loveday previously co-owned Nina restaurant, pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of aggravated assault without a weapon. The incident occurred on July 21, 2024, with the charge being aggravated by their relationship status.
Prosecutors withdrew additional charges, including one of choking, suffocating or strangling in a domestic setting. Moreira Loureiro remains on bail until the June court appearance, where Loveday will have the opportunity to present her victim impact statement.
