Bartender sentenced to 14 months imprisonment

A 25 year old Goulburn bartender faced court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to stealing $6000 from his  former employer.

For four years, Bradley James David Moon had been an employee of a hospitality company that runs Goulburn venues Astor Hotel and Tattersalls Hotel. Moon regularly closed the bar and performed cashier duties.

On 16 August 2020, Moon handed in his resignation and on 21 August, prepared two bundles of cash to be reloaded into the ATM and the Cash Redemption Terminal, before placing them in the hotel safe.

When his boss collected the bundles the following day, they were $250 short. Moon denied taking the cash, however had a change of heart before admitting the theft to his boss.

Moon then admitted to stealing more cash from the venue and repaid $585 of stolen funds to the bar.

An audit was conducted on 23 August, which found that a total of $6000 had been stolen from the registers and cash machines.

Moon admitted to stealing all if it.

Court proceedings heard that Moon had repaid more than $1200 following an agreement with the hotel that would see him avoid prosecution.

Moon showed no contrition.

Moon was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment to be served by way of a community corrections order. He was also ordered to serve community service and repay the hotel the outstanding debt of almost $5000.
