Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants to make its Australian debut

Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants are making their debut in Australia in October 2021.

IHG Hotels & Resorts and Pro-invest Group plan to convert Sydney’s Primus Hotel to Kimpton Sydney.

Kimpton Sydney will feature 172 rooms and suites with a unique design and feel about them, a rooftop swimming pool and conference and event spaces. There will also be a lobby bar, café and rooftop restaurant.

The brand’s lifestyle programming means guests will have access to complimentary experiences such as yoga lessons, bike rental, morning coffee and tea, and Kimpton’s Social Hour, which sees guests mingle and network in the evening over complimentary wines.

The Kimpton is also a pet-friendly hotel.

“I can’t tell you how excited we are to finally bring the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand to Australia,” Leanne Harwood, managing director of IHG? Australasia, Japan & Pacific said.

“We are very aware of how special the Kimpton brand is and that’s why it was so important to us that we only bring it to market with the right owner and when we have the perfect property to bring it to life. The Primus Sydney property exudes Kimpton character. When we saw it we knew it had to wear the Kimpton badge and we are so glad that Pro-invest agreed and put its full weight behind the brand.

“We are so proud to have such a great long-term partnership with Pro-invest, which already includes 13 open or pipeline hotels from three IHG brands, and we look forward to continuing this growth together.”

Jan Smits, Co-CEO at Pro-invest said, “Such a uniquely beautiful and historic hotel required a brand that would bring the guest experience to life, and since each Kimpton hotel is a hotel in itself, individually designed to blend the environment with the local culture and appeal to the guests Offering authentic hotel and playful experience, we knew it was the right choice.”

IHG and Pro-invest began working with each other when Pro-invest opened Australia’s first Holiday Inn Express in Sydney’s Macquarie Park in 2016.

The portfolio now includes seven Holiday Inn Express branded hotels.

IHG and Pro-invest are also expanding their partnership with new brands, including six hotels all slated to make a grand entrance in the next few years.

Venues will be launched under the voco, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn Express and now Kimpton brands.
