Black Rhino Group expands its property portfolio to South Australia

Victorian based Black Rhino Group has added South Australia’s Portside Tavern in Port Pirie to its property portfolio.

The Group’s latest purchase is part of a plan to acquire a number of South Australian hospitality and accommodation venues for refurbishment.

Dave Tomsic and his wife Deborah Mathieson-Tomsic run the Black Rhino Group and are behind about 20 gaming venues, hotels and nightclubs across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The Portside Tavern was bought for $3.6 million making it Black Rhino Group’s second pub purchase in South Australia, the first being the Newmarket Hotel in Port Adelaide which was bought earlier last month for $4 million.

Tomsic told InDaily the group had signed a heads of agreement on two other pubs in regional SA in addition to a city venue. He also stated that he was searching for more hotels with plans to renovate the buildings.

Tomsic believes South Australia is now attractive to interstate buyers, based on its  comparatively low property prices.

“The prices in Melbourne are out of control and we looked in Sydney and the prices are out of control there too,” Tomsic said.

“I like Queensland but it’s just that bit further and South Australia is beautiful and not too far. You can get in your car and drive or it’s just a one-hour flight.”

Black Rhino joins the Hurley Hotel group, Australian Venue Co, Woolworths-owned ALH Group, Saturno Group, Duxton Pubs and Matthews Hospitality in SA’s hotels market.
