Sneaky ciggy delivery sees woman fined in hotel quarantine

A Gold Coast woman has been fined for breaching hotel quarantine conditions after a drone was seen delivering a pack of cigarettes to her hotel room.

According to a Queensland Police spokeswoman, the 44 year old woman was fined $1334 for failing to comply with a Covid-19 direction.

On Sunday 11 July, a man was seen operating the drone from outside Crowne Plaza Broadbeach. The drone reached the woman’s balcony where they tried to make the delivery during daytime hours.

A hotel staff member spotted the drone and called the police who then interviewed the woman.

The man operating the drone could potentially be fined from Civil Aviation Safety Authority for breaching safe flying regulations, however a spokesman for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority said the incident was under review and it was too early to determine if a breach had indeed happened.
