An iconic Sydney Italian restaurant soon to make Noosa debut

Sydney’s Lucio’s Italian Restaurant is set to open a new version of the eatery in Noosa.

The Sydney restaurant was run by the Galletto family and was named after patriarch Lucio.

The upmarket eatery, that over the past four decades attracted celebrities such as Al Pacino and The Beatles’ George Harrison, closed the doors to it Paddington restaurant at the beginning of the year.

The new Noosa venture will be run by Lucio’s son Matteo alongside his sister Michela and wife Dieuwke Albertsma.

“The restaurant needed more changes than what you could do in that small space in Paddington,” said Matteo.

“The option was close it down there and move somewhere else, or close the restaurant for six months, probably a year, do a complete refurb of everything and that would set us up for another 20 years.

“We really needed to find a place that has a great vibrant food scene, a healthy restaurant trade and there’s not a lot of places outside metropolitan areas that have that, so that was why we really gravitated towards Noosa,” he said.

Even though Matteo, Michela and Dieuwke will be running the Noosa venue, Lucio will make the occasional guest appearance.

They are hoping to open the new Lucio’s in November.
