Luke’s Kitchen to be a casual dining affair

Sydney’s new Kimpton Hotel will be home to Luke Mangan’s restaurant Luke’s Kitchen, which is set to open in January 2022.

The renowned chef describes the restaurant as having a “a relaxed, casual feel”.

“The music is buzzing, the lights are low, the flowers are on the table,” he says. “The waiters are running around with a bib apron and a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. That sort of casual.”

Mangan has taken charge of the Kimpton’s restaurants and bars, which will not only feature Luke’s Kitchen, but also a 1930s-style cocktail bar, wine cellar, rooftop bar and cafe.

“Am I the chef standing in the kitchen cooking your meal every night? No, I’m not,” he says.

“I am making what I like to think is the whole magic of the restaurant work.”

Mangan urges people to get vaccinated to help industry get back on track

Mangan feels that vaccinations will be crucial for Sydney’s hospitality sector to open up and thrive again.

“I guess my message is just go and bloody get vaccinated, and hopefully we can all get back together,” says Mangan.

A spokeswoman for the Kimpton Hotel said, at this stage, staff and guests would not be required to be vaccinated however, Kimpton will follow any future government advice.
