$5000 alfresco grants to help revive NSW hospitality

NSW restaurants, bars and cafes will be offered grants of $5000 and will be able to extend their outdoor dining as part of a government package designed to revive NSW hospitality industry after the recent lockdown.

Under the $66 million Alfresco Restart Initiative, the first 5000 hospitality businesses to successfully apply for the new government grant will receive $5000 to improve their outdoor dining areas.

NSW Treasurer Matt Kean said the dining initiative was a “safe way to socialise as we open up”.

“That’s why we are supporting new outdoor entertainment and dining precincts to pop up right across the state,” Kean said.

According to Planning Minister Rob Stokes, a six-month emergency exemption will be given to hospitality venues to expand onto private land such as car parks, bowling greens and gardens.

The plan also includes councils being offered up to $500,000 in grants to improve outdoor facilities for high streets and surrounding areas with outdoor live music, theatre and comedy shows set to play across The Rocks, Darling Harbour and the Domain this summer.

The government is also extending its Dine and Discover voucher program where two additional vouchers will be provided to eligible NSW resident aged over 18 years.
