Tragic domestic violence murder in Sunshine Coast resort

A man has been charged with his wife’s murder after a hotel staff member at a Sunshine Coast resort found her body on the bed and ‘covered in blood’.

According to police, the woman was “tragically” killed by her husband on Valentine’s Day.

Vanessa Godfrey, 46 from Burpengary was found deceased at around 3:35pm inside a Pelican Waters resort room after a staff member went to the room for a welfare check.

Her husband, 50-year-old Jeffrey James Godfrey has been charged with her domestic violence murder.

Queensland police said the couple were staying at the resort over the weekend for a social function and Mr Godfrey was found unconscious and with minor injuries in the same room where his wife was found dead.

Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen told reporters it would have been “very horrific” for the staff members that were confronted with the alleged murder scene.

“It was physically obvious she was deceased; she was covered in blood and there were some wounds on her arms,” he said.

“We suspect there was some sort of weapon used to make those wounds.”

A forensic examination and autopsy are yet to be completed.

Inspector Drinnen said officers would speak to several people to determine what happened in the lead up to the death.

On Tuesday, Mr Godfrey’s lawyer addressed the Maroochydore Magistrates Court for a brief hearing and did not apply for his client’s bail.

The defendant will remain in custody until early May when he is expected to front court.
