The MCG gets a fine dine Grossi upgrade … but you can still get your pie and chips

Food menus at the footy (AFL that is) have had a makeover with chefs including Guy Grossi and Alejandro Saravia changing the dining experience.

Grossi will oversee the food in the MCG’s Committee Room, which will be transformed into what he describes as a sophisticated, yet relaxed environment with strong European influences.

Have no fear though, you can still get a pie, hot dog and chips at the food stands around the ground. There’s nothing that says ‘footy food’ more than the contents of your Four n Twenty pie burning your fingers as it slops to the ground.

SPQR Pizza, Royal Stacks burgers and Gami's Korean fried chicken will also be available at some of the food outlets in the stands.

The changes to the food offering refer more to the MCG’s dining areas, not the food stalls.

As for Grossi’s involvement, previously the MCG’s Committee Room was only open to members of the MCG. Now, it can be accessed by the general public for lunches during the week.

Grossi’s a la carte menu will serve "good food from good provenance: simple, well-executed".

"You could be eating at a great restaurant in Europe, but you turn around and go: oh my god, we're in Melbourne," Grossi told Good Food.

On the menu will be non-traditional footy fare including the chef’s famous parmesan-crusted lamb shoulder, wagyu bresaola with accompaniments and a champagne trolley at the start of the meal.

On the specials menu you may find veal saltimbocca or tagliolini alle vongole.

Meanwhile, the Long Room will be taken over by chef Alejandro Saravia, creator of CBD restaurant Farmer's Daughters, however this will remain an MCC-only zone.

You can book a table at the Committee Room by Guy Grossi from Thursday, 10 March. Book at mcg.org.au/grossi
