Sydney pub institution Jacksons on George is ready for its makeover

Sydney pub Jacksons on George will soon receive a makeover, with Bondi Icebergs’ Maurice Terzini set to be creative director when the venue reopens next year.

Jacksons on George closed its doors in 2018 after Lendlease bought the property as part of its larger development project at Circular Quay.

Lendlease, together with DTL Entertainment Group, is set to relaunch the iconic pub at its Sydney Place development in early 2023.

The firm is led by Mr Terzini, entrepreneurs Paul Ford and Steve Bannigan and publican Michael Broome.

“It’s been a tough few years for Sydney’s hospitality industry but we’re committed and more than ready to turn this around. It’s time to become a global city again. At Jacksons, we’re creating an innovative, exciting destination where the food and drinks will be simple and elegant, the service will be traditional, and the atmosphere will be unforgettable,” Mr Terzini said.

Designed by award-winning architects Studio Hollenstein, the new three-level, 1,036sqm modern Australian gastropub and restaurant will offer numerous dining options including an outdoor rooftop terrace that overlooks a new George Street Public Plaza, urban laneways featuring more than 20 retail shops and dining options.

Sydney Place has been developed and constructed by Lendlease, in a joint venture with China’s Ping An Real Estate and Japan’s Mitsubishi Estate Asia.

It will also feature a 55-storey commercial tower, which is currently under construction at 180 George Street and will host tenants including global software company Salesforce, early-stage investment group Investible, Greenhouse, and commercial property services firm JLL.
