Victoria launches ‘Dine Out’ rebates to help the hospo industry get back on its feet

Rebates will be available to Victorians, who will be able to claim back a quarter of their bill when dining out.

The rebates are designed to inject money into hospitality businesses that have suffered over the past two years.

These rebates will be offered when food is purchased at cafes and restaurants, bars and pubs, registered clubs, breweries and wineries, food trucks and fast food and takeaway outlets.

The rebates can also be used for entertainment such as cinema tickets, theme parks, exhibitions, museums, zoos, at music and comedy events and at the theatre.

The initiative is part of the Victorian governments dining and entertainment program that was launched on Tuesday.

This is not valid in the City of Melbourne, where the Melbourne Money program is currently operating.

Under the new program, customers who spend up to $125 can receive 25 per cent back on their expenses.

Dining experiences can only be claimed back when dining between Monday and Thursday, while the entertainment experiences can be used any day of the week.

The government is also desperately trying to fill the gaps for hospitality businesses who are suffering from severe staff shortages.

$6.68 million in funding was announced by the government. This would be used to support workers to be trained for hospitality jobs with small to medium sized businesses.
