Brisbane sky high restaurant breath tests diners

Brisbane residents who want to attend a 17-metre high ‘vertical restaurant’, will have to undergo a breath test before entering.

The rooftop restaurant at Brisbane’s Powerhouse is calling on diners with a bit dare to hang above a 17 metre drop on the side of the building’s industrial facade.

Safety is a major concern and diners will have to put on a full body harness and be breath-tested before being taken to the top of the building.

Alcohol can be served with the meal.

One TikTok influencer said of the experience, “Getting into my seat was probably the scariest part, I don’t think I really realised how high up we would be.”

Cutlery is secured so it doesn’t drop, and phones are placed in a lanyard.

Following the meal, diners can descend through the Powerhouse or, using their harness, take a jump off the side of the building.

The experience costs $500, with some calling the price “outrageous”.

“$500 dollars tho? So much more we could do over two days with that,” one person said.

“I don’t like having to wear a harness for work let alone paying for the pleasure,” another wrote.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner hoped the experience attracts tourists to the Sunshine State.

“This new experience is perfect for Brisbane and combines all the attributes we’re renowned for – great food, a beautiful city, a cutting-edge cultural scene and a sense of adventure,” Schrinner said.

“I have no doubt Vertigo will draw visitors from across the world to sample the best of Brisbane.”
