Two men sentenced for vicious pub bashing

Samuel Octavious Pacey will serve out 12 months on a community correction order and perform 40 hours of community service work, after being found guilty of a vicious attack on another man at a Northern Rivers pub.

Pacey’s victim suffered horrific injuries including a broken nose and separated upper lip.

25-year-old Pacey was identified by police from CCTV footage. He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Lismore Local Court on September 7 and was convicted and sentenced on Monday.

A second man has 27-year-old Brandon Aaron Orchard, of Goonellabah, was also sentenced. Orchard pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the same incident.

The fight broke out at the Metropole Hotel in Lismore after Pacey and his girlfriend had been drinking at the Lismore Turf Club.

Pacey became aggravated at the Metropole when a man opened a bathroom door onto his girlfriend. She shoved the door back and the man slapped her glass out of her hand after she threw her drink over him.

Bystanders broke up the fight between the three men after Pacey landed a flurry of punches and kneed the man in the head.

“As a result of the assault the victim received a number of injuries, including a fractured nose, separated upper lip, facial lacerations and swelling, as well as a chipped tooth,” police state in court documents.

Orchard was fined $500 and placed on a 12 month community corrections order for his part in the fracas.
