The Coogee Bay Hotel has undergone a mega makeover for its 150th birthday celebrations.

Guestrooms above the corner bar have been glammed up. They are small and have only an ensuite.

Some have shared balconies, but are good if you want to feel like part of the pub’s fabric.

If you are looking for a quieter experience, the four-star boutique hotel now sparkles with seaside chic and creature hotel comforts including navy cotton throw rugs from Temple & Webster.

Various rooms have a covered terrace with views to the beach, while all come with a work desk, flat-screen TV, kitchen nook, Husky fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee machine.

There is a main king bed, but the sofa can convert to sleep two children.

The pub’s refitted Marra Bar & Grill with its seaside feel is a highlight, as is its share plates with mostly Japanese and Spanish influences.

The salt and pepper squid with coriander mayo and chilli garnish are worth adding to the experience, as is the linguine with blue swimmer crab.

Cocktails and reasonably priced wines are also a winner.
The Coogee Bay Hotel is perfect for a weekend getaway, or short stay.
