A terrifying robbery at an Adelaide Hills hotel on Monday night has left staff shaken.

Staff was forced to hide as the two men hit the Stirling Hotel on Mount Barker Rd around closing time. After hearing banging and crashing coming from the gaming room area, they immediately hid and called police.

The popular hotel recently won the best deluxe pub accommodation category at the Australian Hotel Association (AHA) awards.

The masked suspects smashed their way into the gaming room and stole cash before fleeing on foot and dropping some of the stolen cash in the carpark.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. However, the men escaped and are yet to be found.

This comes after a machete-wielding man robbed two service stations in the southern suburbs.

Police are calling for any witnesses of the hotel robbery to come forward. They can also call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
