Weifeng ‘Jack’ Huang will face the Supreme Court accused of his girlfriend and her son with a kitchen knife and meat cleaver.

Jifeng ‘Eileen’ Liu, 47, and her son Wenhao ‘Sam’ Du, 20, were killed on 8 August 2022 at their home. The bodies were found in an upstairs bedroom after Huang called 000.

The 50-year-old former Caxton Street restaurateur was said to have become “lazy and incompetent” leading up to the murder. He was the chef, director and secretary of Caxton Street’s Bann Thai Fusion restaurant, owned by Liu.

Huang fronted the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday from prison in a committal hearing to decide whether he should stand trial on double murder.

Police described the scene as “traumatic” and allege that Huang washed and changed his clothes, before going on a mysterious 30-minute drive.

Witness Haozhe ‘Harry’ Yin, who was friends with Sam told the court, “He (Sam) said that Jack at first would pay rent, but in the end, he stopped paying rent, and he did not contribute to any housework and that he was a lazy and incompetent person.”

He said there were constant arguments between the victims and Huang.

After hearing all the evidence, the legal team for Huang accepted the case was strong enough to go to trial.

Huang will stand trial at a yet-to-be-determined date.
