A gang of teenagers has attacked a Melbourne chef at his Southbank restaurant.

The fracas occurred after two people entered Food Hall Thai restaurant and demanded free drinks.

Staff refused. However, the pair came back a short time later as part of a larger group.

A group of approximately 20 male teens then assaulted the chef, hitting him from behind with a beer bottle.

A person was filming the incident at the time. The video shows the person who was narrowly missed by the bottle saying, “Sir, are you OK sir?” as blood runs down the chef’s neck.

The group was also captured on CCTV damaging the exterior of the restaurant and smashing windows with chairs.

“(The staff felt) so scared,” owner Terrance Khor told 7NEWS.

“One of my staff, the meal staff, he was attacked as well.”

Khor said he was “shocked but not surprised” by the incident.

When customers and staff reported the incident, they were told no police were available to attend.

The restaurant received an email from Victoria Police with a link to file a report

“We feel like ... we (have) not been cared for,” Khor said.

Police are investigating the incident and have requested information from anyone with CCTV footage or knowledge of the incident.
