A Sydney restaurant has banned kids under the age of 18 from dining.

Kin Dining and Bar, a fusion Peruvian and Japanese restaurant in Sydney’s inner west, wants to give adults a “safe space” where they could feel a “sense of escapism.”

Chef and owner Peter Wu has also cited safety concerns, claiming that children are likely to collide with a tray of drinks or hot food.

Wu told delicious, the response was “overwhelmingly positive”.

“We get a lot of feedback from the current regulars that come back again and again that during dinner time, when they’re out to enjoy a nice meal or a few wines and cocktails, it’s nice to be able to get away from a noisy toddler in the corner, or a crying baby or a loud iPad.”

There has been backlash, with many parents calling out the discrimination.

One social media users stated: “Yeah, ban everyone and everything that annoys anyone and everything!”

Another wrote, “Jeez, how entitled are we becoming?! By the way - my 14 and 17-year-olds would never misbehave at any restaurant!”

One woman really took aim: “While I believe that children really shouldn't be in restaurants at night because they should be in bed, particularly very young children, why should restaurants make it their business to feel they have the right to ban anyone under 18?

“Ridiculous, to say the least. For me personally, I don't have a problem with people bringing kids to have a family meal.”

She finished, “Right, so you’re just putting babysitting fees on top of an already expensive menu.”
