BCN Events Group enters liquidation putting 90 people out of work
Seven venues that made up a Brisbane-based hospitality group have stopped trading after BCN Events Group entered liquidation.
The group struggled in 2022 post-COVID and has been unable to recover. It took an extra hit 18 months ago when a power outage hit the bakery business destroying around $150,000 worth of food.
Ninety staff have been affected across cooking school Lumiere Culinary Studio and popular cafe Mica which had locations in Newstead and the CBD.
Other venues to close down include King Street Bakery, based in Bowen Hills, wholesale service provider the Kneadery in Newstead and a commercial production kitchen in Brisbane.
Mark Holland, Jamie Harris and Anthony Connelly of restructuring firm McGrath Nicol haver been appointed as liquidators.
“We intend to work with staff, customers and suppliers during this difficult time,” the liquidators said in a statement to news.com.au.
The owner was award-winning chef Shannon Kellam, who is yet to comment.
Kellam’s French fine dining restaurant Montrachet and a Mica café located in Brisbane airport continue to trade and are not caught up in the collapse.
