Barista has hot coffee thrown in her face by angry customer

In an increasingly angry world, even the humble barista isn’t safe.

One Melbourne barista recently had a hot cup of coffee thrown at her after one customer became angry for waiting too long for an order.

The visibly shocked barista, whose name is Carly, can be seen on security footage from the Little Latte Drive Thru in Hoppers Crossing wiping the liquid from her face.

She was assessed by paramedics and treated for minor scolds.

Carly told radio station K Rock that two women she was serving became angry when they waited an extra two minutes to get their coffees while Carly served other customers.

She had placed the coffees on the order window only to have one of them thrown back at her.

“All it took” for them to become angry was for her to ask them to go to the other window of the coffee shop,” Carly explained.

“I proceeded to try to serve the car, and the car told me, like, it's fine, just serve the ladies - like we can hear them going on, don't stress,” the barista explained.

“So I served the ladies; they ordered two coffees. And then I proceeded to serve the car; they ordered a few toasties, a few milkshakes.

“And then what happened was I put the toasties down before I made their coffee. So that was what upset them. But it was only about two minutes from me serving the car to handing them their coffees.”

Little Latte Drive Thru owner Ebony Spiteri posted vision of the offenders to Instagram to help track them down.

“On Sunday 28th of July at 2pm they came to our store for the first time and threw a boiling hot coffee at our staff!!!” the Instagram post states.

“If you know the identity of them please contact local police or message us privately please!

“Please share so they don’t hurt anyone else! Thank you everyone !!!!”
Spiteri wasn’t at the store at the time, but said Carly was distraught.

“It is not OK to throw anything at anyone for any reason let alone a really hot drink, and especially at someone that is doing their job," Spiteri said.

Victoria Police is now investigating and said in a statement: “The victim sustained minor scalds from the hot liquid and was treated at the scene.

“The pair fled in an unknown vehicle travelling south along Forsyth Road.

“Police have spoken to the victim and have a number of active and ongoing enquiries to make in relation to the women involved.”

Witnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppersvic.com.au.
