Vegan activist found guilty of trespass at Fyre restaurant

A vegan activist who pleaded guilty to two trespass and disorderly behaviour charges last month has been told by the Joondalup Magistrates Court she can’t leave Western Australia for six months.

Tash Peterson has also been slapped with thousands of dollars in fines for her behaviour in two separate incidences at a Perth restaurant Fyre last year.

Peterson targeted the restaurant and its owner John Mountain after he banned vegans from the venue citing “mental health reasons”, following a bad review.

The activist and her supporters stormed the restaurant on June 30, 2023, but were physically removed by Mountain and his staff.

Following the incursion, criminal allegations of trespass, disorderly behaviour in public and remaining in the vicinity of a licensed premises were laid against Peterson.

However, Peterson went back for seconds the following week. In the second incident, she returned to Fyre run footage of animals being slaughtered on a TV screen and the sound of pigs screeching.

Peterson was again charged with trespass.

Last Monday, she pleaded guilty to both charges but had the charge of remaining on a licensed premises dropped.

She was ordered by the magistrate to pay a total of $2300 in fines plus costs and was ordered to complete 30 hours of community service during a six-month community-based order.

Under the order Peterson must “not leave the State without the prior permission of the Community Corrections Centre.

“And basically, I’m in big sh*t if I commit another criminal offence,” she said on Tik Tok.

Fyre also took to social media to share the verdict.

“So Peterson pleaded guilty to the offences she committed at our venue over a year ago,” a Facebook post read.

“She received a six-month community order of 30 hours ‘sh*t picking’, $2300 in fines and costs on top. Thanks WA Police, we at Fyre love you all.”
