5-star Adelaide Marriott Hotel makes South Australian history

The 5-star Adelaide Marriott Hotel has opened its doors in Adelaide and in doing so has become the group’s first location in South Australia, the fifth branded hotel in Australia and Marriott International’s 600th property in Asia-Pacific, excluding China.

Occupying the historic 150-year-old General Post Office (GPO) building in Adelaide's CBD, the Adelaide Marriott Hotel blends modern luxury with its rich heritage. The design honours the legacy of Postmaster General Sir Charles Todd, the pioneer behind the Overland Telegraph Line.

“Our prime city location makes it the perfect launching pad for interstate and overseas visitors to tap into all that the destination has to offer.”

“We are excited to open this milestone hotel, the first Marriott Hotel in South Australia, and look forward to welcoming our guests,” Adelaide Marriott Hotel General Manager Paul Gallop said.

Local touches and South Australian elements are woven throughout the hotel. The colour palette references the state's renowned wine region, reflected in the furniture, artwork, and custom carpet. Special commissions include culturally significant pieces by First Nations artists from the APY Arts Centre Collective.

A modern 14-storey tower extends from the original GPO building, offering 285 guestrooms with stunning views of the Adelaide skyline or Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga. For relaxation and rejuvenation, the hotel boasts a fitness studio, an 18-metre indoor pool, and a variety of meeting and event spaces. Three distinct dining experiences await guests, including Greatroom, Penny Blue, and the Exchange Lane laneway bar.

“This hotel will become a true flagship property for Marriott Hotels as we continue to deliver contemporary design and elevated guest experiences,” Marriott International Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Area Vice President Jason Nuell said.
