Wine producing brothers to face court over $20 million fraud
Mass-scale white wine producers Vincent Littore and David Littore have been accused of defrauding more than $20 million over six years.
The two Murray Darling brothers fronted the Mildura Magistrates’ Court on September 17 for a brief filing hearing.
The pair is accused of falsifying documents to an Australian bank, including cheques and loan documentation, between September 2010 and March 2016.
The Littore brothers run Jindalee Road Wines, believed to be among the biggest producers of white wine in Australia.
Earlier in the year, the company had its export licence cancelled. It is one of only eight licences to be suspended or cancelled by Wine Australia in the last 10 years.
“The licence cancellation reflects Wine Australia’s commitment to ensuring that consumers worldwide can be confident that label claims reflect what is in the bottle,” said Wine Australia.
That news came around two months after Jindalee Road Wines and its former manager were fined nearly $500,000 for illegally taking water from a Western Murray Irrigation pipeline.
The Littore brothers, who served as co-managing directors of the family winery, expanded the business's holdings and production. In 2008, they operated under the Littore Family Wines brand, a reflection of the family's strong values and ethics, as stated on their website.
Magistrate Patrick Southey informed the pair that they would face a committal mention in Mildura on November 20.
