A man has been charged following an alleged collision with a group of people outside a South Australian pub in the early hours of this morning.

CCTV footage shows the driver allegedly accelerating into a group of people, pinning them against a wall at the Royal Family Hotel on North Terrace, Port Elliot.

A young man, believed to be a pub employee, is in critical condition, while four others sustained minor injuries.

Police stated that the driver fled the scene around 1:30 am but returned shortly after.

The 37-year-old man was arrested and taken to Christies Beach Police Station, where he was charged with causing harm by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of a crash.

A 22-year-old man from Hindmarsh Island sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to Adelaide for treatment, where he remains in hospital.

Four other victims were treated for minor injuries, including a 21-year-old man from Goolwa Beach, a 37-year-old woman from Port Elliot, a 20-year-old woman from Inman Valley, and a 30-year-old man from Blackwood.

North Terrace in Port Elliot, a coastal town near Victor Harbor, was closed for most of the day as police examined the scene.

The driver has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 8 October.
