Boathouse Group plans to develop $33m 3-restaurant complex

The Boathouse Group has proposed to develop a $33 million restaurant complex at Terrey Hills to be named “The Farmhouse, Terrey Hills”

The proposal has divided the community, with the Northern Beaches Council stating support and opposition is divided down the middle.

Plans for the build went on public display late last year: 22 backed the plan, while 21 wanted it scrapped.

Proposed plans reveal a development featuring multiple low-rise restaurant pavilions designed to resemble a farm setting, integrated within a landscaped public space.

"The Farmhouse," the complex would encompass three licensed restaurants with outdoor dining areas, aiming to provide varied culinary experiences. Landscaping plans indicate the addition of over 8,300 plants, including 93 trees, to enhance the site's natural ambiance.

A basement car park with a capacity of 156 vehicles is included in the development, along with a children's play area, pergolas, a stage, and a large lawn.

The complex is slated to operate seven days a week, from 7am to midnight, accommodating a maximum of 794 patrons. Restaurant 1 is described in planning documents as offering a casual dining experience, featuring a pitched roof design reminiscent of rural Australian architecture.

Restaurant 2, positioned as the primary food and beverage outlet, is planned to provide a relaxed, family-friendly dining environment with both indoor and outdoor seating.

“The outdoor dining terrace will be a protected space with landscaped pergolas alongside a small stage to provide ambient live music from midday to 10pm,” plans state.

The design intended to evoke the classic Australian wraparound veranda have been submitted, alongside a separate fine-dining establishment with a covered outdoor area, whch would encompass restaurant 3.

While acknowledging support for the development, Terrey Hills Progress Association president, Paul Davenport, has expressed concerns regarding potential noise impacts on nearby residents. He specifically noted the potential for adverse effects should the venues host weddings or other large functions.

“We note the forecast traffic impact of an additional 135 vehicles per hour and the implication that this traffic would likely be disbursed on other local roads,” he wrote.

The Duffys Forest Residents Association also supported the DA for the jobs it would create, however did raise issues around  vehicle access from Mona Vale Rd, sufficient parking and potential noise impacts.

The Boathouse Group, owned by North Shore property developer brothers Ben and Jono Isaac, has 12 hospitality outlets from the Central Coast to Wollongong including Manly Pavilion, Barrenjoey House, Mona Social, The Boathouse Shelly Beach and The Boathouse Hotel Patonga.

Their company, Isaac Property Developments, bought the undeveloped 1.6ha site on Myoora Rd slated for The Farmhouse for $9.8 million in 2022.
