Newcastle venues remain most violent

Two Newcastle inner-city licenced venues remain at the top of the list of the state's most violent venues.

Fanny's nightclub and MJ Finnegans are still classified as level one venues after recording 28 and 21 assaults respectively this financial year.

That means the two venues are subject to the highest level of liquor restrictions.

Hospitality Minister George Souris says King Street Hotel remains in level two, while the Cambridge and Queens Wharf Brewery has been removed from the list.

"Everybody has to continue to remain focussed - the venue proprietors, and operators, local government, the police, the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing," he said.

"The concentration of our efforts thus far has seen a reduction in the number of these incidents, but stubbornly there are still a couple of Newcastle venues on the higher list."
