Gallaghers' newest Irish pub unveiled

On Wednesday night the team behind the country's favourite Irish pubs launched a new installment in the heart of Sydney's Entertainment Quarter.

Guests at the unveiling of the new PJ Gallaghers venue were treated to traditional Irish music and dancing, as well as hearty fare of fresh-baked bread, corned beef and sumptuous Irish stew.

Gallagher Hotels' Patrick and Angela Gallagher greeted incomers at the door, and group executive chef Ronny Ghantous hovered around the foodservice beaming at hungry patrons.

Thick, creamy Guinness and icy-cold Magners flowed freely as patrons took advantage of a carefully-selected beverage list to complement the in-house Irish cuisine.

Proud Irishman and recently appointed Magners brand executive, Matt Moloney, told TheShout that while Sydney's emerging small bars are 'pretty cool' they lack the local bar feel from his homeland.

"It's great to see an Irish-themed bar opening so close to the heavily Irish populated areas of Randwick and Coogee," he said.

"The new PJs reminds me of that typical local bar from back home where you can sit in the corner with a few mates and have a chat, enjoying a pint of Guinness and some Tayto crisps, or in the beer garden in the sunshine with an ice-cold Magners."

The re-worked venue sits on the site of the former Fox & Lion and is the fifth Irish-branded hotel created by the Gallaghers.

"It was a pleasure hosting a traditional Irish celebration, with music and dancing and lots of friends," Patrick Gallagher told TheShout. 

"Once my father, Brian Gallagher, got on stage to sing Danny Boy there was no stopping him!"
