Cafe helps disabled school leavers into workforce

A new cafe has been launched in Canberra's north to help young adults with disabilities transition into the workforce.

The Branch Out Cafe in Holt was set up by Carers ACT and provides hospitality training to school leavers.

The cafe has six trainees at any one time and two of the program's graduates are now working in the field.

Dee McGrath from Carers ACT is urging more employers to get on board.

"To see the benefits of these young people, because they have blossomed into what I think will become very productive and very loyal employees," she said.

"The whole idea of the Branch Out Cafe is really training, skilling up individuals who have a passion for hospitality but just need extra skills, but more importantly the confidence, to be able to become job ready."
