New craft beer venue for Sydney

Iron Awe Brewbar, a 120-capacity venue with an on-site microbrewery, has received approval to open in the inner Sydney suburb of Glebe later this year.

Home brewer Steve Drissell has received liquor licensing approval to open the brewbar on the site of the former Iron Awe steel fabrication business at 4-8 Grose Street, Glebe.

The venue has been vacant for some time and still carries the rustic signage of its former occupants (pictured left).

Drissell (pictured below), who is originally from the UK, told TheShout he will make his own cask-conditioned real ales a key focus of the bar, which will also serve beers from other local craft brewers.

He said the bar will serve pizzas and will play host to local musicians several times a week.

Drissell said he hopes to have the bar up and running by the second half of this year, following an extensive refurbishment that will strip it back to a more industrial interior, as well as adding a beer garden at the rear.
