Annandale to keep rocking

It once again looked like it was curtains for live music at the ailing Annandale Hotel on Monday, with reports the famed venue had been placed in the hands of receivers.

The Palms and Straight Arrows guitarist Al Grigg tweeted a number of photographs from the Annandale on Sunday night, alongside the words: ''Annandale Hotel #lastdrinks #rip #wtf.''

The owners, Matthew and Daniel Rule, could not be reached but a late afternoon post on the venue's Facebook page confirmed the pair had met with the bank.

''The hotel is not closed and our goal is to work with the bank to ensure that live music will continue through this period,'' it said.

The Annandale has hosted hundreds of artists including Jet, the Living End, the Dandy Warhols, Hoodoo Gurus, the Vines and Sarah Blasko.

Last year the Midnight Oil singer and politician Peter Garrett urged baby boomers to get behind ''one of the spiritual homes to Australian artists'', long dogged by mounting costs - a lengthy stoush over late night trading and noise complaints from neighbours among the issues to take a financial toll.

On the verge of closure in late 2011, the hotel launched a ''buy-a-brick'' plan, which allowed fans to buy a stake in the venue.

It raised more than $50,000. The Leichardt mayor, Darcy Byrne, was quick to voice his support on Monday, declaring he wanted ''rock-and-roll not residential development''.

The stalwart pub and rock venue the Sandringham Hotel in Newtown went into receivership last year. The Sando, however, will be reborn as a sister venue to Melbourne's Corner Hotel, the Newtown Social Club.
