Biggest pub makes rock star signing

After two years out of the limelight one of Brisbane's favourite rock 'n' roll sons has taken over live music bookings at Australia's biggest pub, Eatons Hill Hotel.

Powderfinger played their final gigs in 2010 and since then founding member and lead guitarist Ian Haug has spent most of his time at his beloved Airlock Studios, north-west of Brisbane. 

Nearby, Robert Comiskey at Eatons Hill Hotel had been planning an expansion of the live music capabilities of their already massive operation.

Haug now joins Eatons Hill as the new director of live entertainment, looking to bring a variety of world-class acts to the hotel's music menu. 

Tonight The Angels are back on stage with Dave Gleeson as part of their 'Take it to the streets' tour.  

The Grand Ballroom (pictured), with its new state-of-the-art $350k audio system, is a 2000-capacity venue that can transform into a more intimate configuration for 500 guests. 

Its layout ensures all ages are catered for, with an under-18s area upstairs and licensed area downstairs allowing both to enjoy the same performance. 

"After 25 years experience playing in venues everywhere, I can honestly say that this is up there with all the best places in the world for a mid-sized venue," said Haug.

"I wish this was an option when Powderfinger was still playing shows. This is a world-class venue for bands and the fans alike."

The hotel is not new to live music, having previously hosted sold-out shows featuring the likes of Prince, Marilyn Manson, Potbeleez, Diesel, Refused and The Descendants. 

"Having Ian on board ensures that the sky's the limit for our future," said Comiskey.
