Second fast food outlet for Orange

The Orange City Council has been recommended to approve a second McDonalds restaurant for the city.

Nearly 80 submissions about the proposed fast-food outlet on Farrell Road were received by the council.

A report to tonight's Sustainable Development Committee says many raised concerns about how the $2.8 million development will affect traffic around Farrell Road, the Telopea Way and the Northern Distributor.

A report to the committee says computer modelling suggests traffic flow at intersection is 'satisfactory' and if the restaurant is approved traffic flow would remain at that level, which is an acceptable arrangement.

Some minor roadworks have been suggested.

The report says up to 120 full and part time jobs would be created and that after six months operating McDonalds management would have the option of asking council to consider 24 hour trading.

Meanwhile, the Committee is also set to discuss developing a traffic and pedestrian management plan for North Orange tonight.
