Foodservice Show Bigger and Better in 2013 More Exhibitors, More Space, Better Competitions

Foodservice Australia, the only tradeshow dedicated to the restaurant, catering and bakery industries will be held in the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne from 2-4 June 2013 with organisers saying “It will be bigger and better than ever before”.

After 40 years serving the food industry, the show was relaunched last year in Sydney with a new organiser and quality audience that exhibitors said were ‘genuine and interested’. “This year is looking like it could be a real blockbuster,” according to Timothy Collett, Exhibition Director.

This year the show will run in Melbourne from 2-4 June and will be 50% larger than last time, with early exhibitor bookings well up on the same time last year.

Food companies locked in include Callebaut, Fonterra, Hakka, Kellogg’s, Kikkoman, Kraft, McCormicks, Procal, Rinoldi Pasta, Sanitarium and Top Hat.

Equipment suppliers include Birko, Caterhire, FSM, Mackies, Oppenheimer, Robot Coupe, Unox, Winterhalter and W&P Reedy.

Industry Associations include the Baking Associations of Australia; Foodservice Suppliers Association Australia, Restaurant & Catering Association.

Entries Now Open for Prestigious Industry Competitions

Industry professionals keen to prove they are the best in their field will be competing live in a series of competitions run on the show floor. They are certain to draw a quality field watched by a critical audience, adding to the pressure-packed conditions in the competition arena.

  • The Medium Rare Chef of the Year sees chef compete against chef and the clock in a test of creativity, culinary knowledge and ingenuity. Professional chefs have one hour to prepare three dishes from a mystery box of ingredients. New this year is a knock-out format that will see all the winners compete in an exciting Grand Final. The winner will receive a trophy and $10,000 in prize money. Entries are now open.
  • The Apprentice Chef of the Year
    Designed by chefs to showcase future Australian talent, this high pressure competition will see apprentices competing against each other in a custom kitchen built in the middle of the show. A new format will see a recognised chef demonstrating a dish to the apprentices before they try to replicate the dish in front of judges. The winner of each round goes through to the Grand Final at the end of the day. Also for the first time the competition will be open to apprentices from any college.
  • Australia’s Best Pie Competition
    This popular competition will decide who makes Australia’s best pie and pastie. Hundreds of entries will be flown in from bakeries all over Australia, each one tasted and examined by a team of expert judges live at the show. If you are a baker with a reputation for producing perfect pies and pasties then you should enter. If you want to learn from the experts then come along to see all the action.
  • Global Pizza Challenge
    The world’s biggest pizza competition will again run at Foodservice Australia, and this time it will run all three days. Come along and watch the finalists prepare their amazing creations for the judges. Between sessions there will be free tastings and tips from the experts.
  • Chocolate Centrepiece Competition
    Patissiers and chocolatiers will be flocking to the Callebaut Chocolate Centrepiece Competition. Six finalists from around the country will spend nine hours building their entries from liquid chocolate. This year the theme is ‘origami’. Watch the triumph and disappointments on Sunday in the Bakery & Pastry Theatre at the show.
