Hotel manager fined for acting like 'vigilante'

A 21-year-old Boulder hotel manager has been fined $450 for what Kalgoorlie magistrate Andrew Maughan described as "vigilante" behaviour.

On January 21, an altercation broke out between staff and patrons at the hotel's bottle shop just before the shop closed about 10:00pm (AWST).

Jake Amin Giles approached the group carrying a tyre iron.

His lawyer said Giles was trying to disperse what had been a "riot" at the bottle shop, where carpets were torn, alcohol was destroyed and curtains ripped.

Mr Maughan said it was an unusual situation but Giles did not need to act like a "vigilante".

Giles pleaded guilty to carrying an article with intent to cause fear.
