Reopened hotel considers challenges

The new manager of the Swan Reach Hotel says it will look at different ways of operating, to ensure it remains viable.

The company, which was leasing the hotel and running the business, went into voluntary administration two weeks ago.

However, the hotel reopened late last week, after its owner appointed a new manager and re-employed its 15 staff members.

New manager Mark Dwyer says it will need to find a way to attract more people to the hotel.

"You know it's very hard in these small places ... it's quite expensive to open the doors and then we've only got a very, very small community," he said.

"So we've got to make food schmick, service schmick ... our heart and soul is obviously our locals but because it's a small heart we really have to make sure the people want to come to the pub."

He says the hotel is an important part of the Swan Reach community.

"As with any small community, there's very few shops still operating in Swan Reach," he said.

"It's [the pub] basically the hub of entertainment when it's going here in Swan Reach.

"The golf club, bowls club, football club have all got small bars but this is really the hub, so a lot can happen here, it's a beautiful spot, it's got a lot of potential so we'll push and go forward."
